Romantic Irish Pub?

Among travelers there is a known fact that if you are looking for some fun in any country you can always count on an Irish Pub enhance your experience. Irish Pubs seem to attract clientle who like to have an above average time of things, is friendly to others around them and tend to have more than one drink while hanging out at the pub. These patrons have been prone to outbursts of singing and hugging and will drop some profanity but then apologize afterwards with a ruckious laugh. Generally a happy lot of individuals.

In Lake Bled Slovenia, its seems as if I have discovered a Romantic Irish Pub. Seriously, I am not kidding you! It came highly recommended from our guide book which leads us to believe the author might actually be a nerd, but a funny nerd. (this was not the only incident of nerdom)Anyways, back to the romantic Irish Pub. It was after a good pizza dinner of fresh pizza dough with ham and cheese toppings as our base, that we made our way to the pub.

Outside the crowd indicated we were in for a decent time. As the door creaked open, yes creaked, we could hear it over the very low and romantic music playing, we were faced with 5 couples all sitting quietly at individual tables sipping their cocktails and playing chess and other quiet games. I looked at my friend with a face that asked if we were in the right place. So being adventurous people we took a seat at the only table available. We ordered our Lasko beer, which is always served in a jumbo bottle and sat there staring at each other. Each of us was afraid to talk thinking we might actually disturb the silence. We engaged in a very intellectual conversation while whispering. We did not feel right to laughing or talking about trivial topics in our normal voices.

I could tell by the speed in which my friend drank her gallon beer that it was time to search for new fun. We were not sure if we would be released from this Romanitc venue because the bartender was way too busy talking on her cell phone. We were ready with our money the moment she set down the phone so we could escape the pub. It happened quickly and we were out the door to search for our true Irish Pub environment. Luckily the Devil Bar was right down the road.

First Impressions of Slovenia

Seriously there are some good looking people in Slovenia! At least the ones we encountered upon our arrival. The bus driver, the airport personnel even the cab driver was cute.
Lucious green landscape surrounds well maintained homes, no crapy run down anything. Landscaping adds the finishing touches to their homesteads, window boxes filled with colorful floweres and accent of pumpkins, gourds and talking gnomes. No need for homeowners association. Historic buildings have been incorporated into newer construction keeping the history and adding a modern touch.

One of their favorite pastimes is to sit at a cafe/bar and drink tea or beer and talk. The evenings they have more drinks but even at lunch it is not uncommon to have wine or beer. Considering it rains quite a bit here they have a lot of outdoor seating. Even at the airport they had that outdoor cafe.

When driving your rental car and you have chosen and automatic. You will find that the cars do not have a clutch but you still need to shift. Strange when you don't know that and you are reeving your engine as you pull out of the airport. So basically it was a flashing sign saying tourist as I cruised by the cafe after leaving the car park. All I could think was Mr Bean goes on Vacation!

The airport is very easy to get around, there is one baggage carousel to find your luggage! When we first arrived on our very little plane we exited onto the runway and walked to a bus, got on, sat there and then took a 100 yard u turn to come back to the exact spot that we got on the bus, only the doors were leading into the terminal??? Who knows what that was all about but I was joking when I leaned over to Brenda to say "wouldn't that be funny if we came back to the same spot!" Sure enough we did!

More thoughts to come!
