Why Did I Choose Slovenia?

Ahh, the question that everyone asks, why Slovenia? Then they ask where is Slovenia? My fathers grandparents originally immigrated from Slovenia in 1901. According to our minimal family history I know only the names of my great grandparents.

My fathers side of the family, both parents (my grandparents) are from Slovenia. One great grandfather on my grandfathers side was Leo Kukar and great grandfather on my grandmothers side was John Gersetich. The Gersetich family is from an area called Kvasica. The Kukar are family was from Chronmji. However, upon research we realize that they may have been from Metlika.

The only record I have of the Kukar family is that they are from Slovenia and my great grandfather may have had a sister and several brothers but we have no names. The Gersetich family left a mere 2 page letter giving us only three town names and a house number in Slovenia.

I have researched our family before but found nothing. I gave the Internet one more chance by trying google and searching for Kukars in Slovenia. A women named Anika Kukar responded and we began a dialogue sharing family stories and finding a few familiar happenings.

I made arrangements to meet her in Ljubliana, the major city of Slovenia. So begins this adventure to find my roots.
